Emergency Blankets
Emergency Blankets - Retain 90% of Your Body Heat
If you are ever caught outdoors unexpected your biggest enemies will be thirst, hunger, and exposure to the cold (particularly at night.) You may be able to survive without food and water for some time, but if the place you are in gets extremely cold at night, you may be dead by morning. In such situations, it is necessary to have an emergency blanket on hand. The nice thing about emergency blankets is that they are now available in compact folded packages that may fit into your pocket, or stored at the bottom of your backpack. They are light enough to bring along even during lengthy or vigorous hiking trips, and are great for 72 hour kits. Emergency blankets function by retaining up to 90% of your own body heat when you wrap the blankets around you. Often, during an outdoor crisis, it may not be possible to light a fire. In such situations, emergency blankets may very well save your life. Best practices would be to have two of emergency blankets with you - one to lay on the ground, and one to wrap around you at night. |
