New Developments in Quick Building

09 Dec, 2017 2

Part of your doomsday plan should include a bug-out shelter, a safe place fully stocked with food and supplies. Construction and building may not come naturally to everyone, but there are several options that could save you time and effort when building the perfect doomsday shelter.

Shed Tiny House

The Tiny House movement has opened up many possibilities for living spaces. Anything and everything can be converted into an off-grid tiny house, and a large shed is perfect for a bug-out shelter. Shed manufacturers make building and installing these homes incredibly easy. The shed comes pre-made, and you just need to pick a spot to set it down. However, the shed will only be a pre-fabricated shell, so you'll need to add insulation, electrical, plumbing, etc. Some companies may offer finishing touches for an additional charge.

Advantages

  • Can be placed just about anywhere
  • Very affordable

Disadvantages

  • Limited space (a few hundred square feet)
  • Requires additional work for insulation, plumbing, and electricity

3D Printed House

3D printing is the way of the future. Concrete 3D printing with rebar for additional support has been making waves. Entire towns could be built in a matter of weeks, and these structures are designed to withstand harsh climates. This technology could be the ideal doomsday shelter, although it’s still in the early phases of development.

Advantages

  • Can be built on-site in as little as 24 hours
  • Strong enough to withstand hurricanes or tornadoes

Disadvantages

  • Very expensive printing equipment required
  • Requires a weatherproof shell to allow the concrete to dry properly
Watch how 3D printing can create strong and resilient homes for the future.

Huf Haus

If assembling furniture from IKEA makes you anxious, this design might not be for you. Huf Haus, located in Germany, builds prefabricated homes. The entire house is built in a factory, then boxed and shipped to the desired location. The walls are constructed in sections with wiring and plumbing, and they slot together like Legos. Huf Haus designs feature large windows that allow for a natural feel. The windows are double or triple layered to maximize insulation and can even be made bulletproof, making them a beautiful yet functional doomsday bunker.

Advantages

  • Bulletproof window option
  • Wall sections with insulation and wiring pre-installed
  • Easy to assemble with wall sections that fit together like Legos
  • Built in a factory over weeks, then installed on-site in a matter of days

Disadvantages

  • Limited design options
  • Must be shipped and assembled on-site
