Paracord Rifle Sling Design

What is Paracord?

Paracord, also known as parachute cord, is a soft, lightweight nylon rope that was originally used for parachuting. Typically, 550 paracord (which is used for our bracelets) is made of 32 strands of nylon sheath on the outside and seven strands of 2-ply nylon yarns on the inside (the “guts”). The 550 paracord has a minimum breaking strength of 550 lbs. While paracord started as a parachutist's tool, people quickly recognized its usefulness in other areas. Since the cord is quick-drying and resistant to rot and mildew, it’s great for many purposes. Military units use it to secure packs, hang covers, and create shelters. Even the inner strands are used as fishing line by military personnel.

Paracord Rifle Sling

Materials Needed:

• 100 feet of paracord
• Needle nose pliers or forceps
• 2x4 piece of wood (as long as your desired sling length)
• 2 Flat washers
• 2 Screws
• Knife
• Swivels from your gun

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Determine the length of your rifle sling. Since this won’t be an adjustable strap, measure carefully.
2. Mark this length onto the 2x4. Attach one gun swivel to the end of the 2x4, making sure not to damage it by screwing it too tightly. Use a washer to create some space. Secure the other swivel at the opposite end of the board at the desired length.

1. Tie one end of the paracord securely to one swivel, then attach the other end to the opposite swivel.
2. Repeat this process until you have four parallel cords running between the swivels. Ensure there is spacing between each cord by wrapping it around the swivel each time. This creates a buffer of space. Tie the cord securely at the end.

1. Begin weaving the paracord through the four strands in an over-under pattern. Continue this process, tightening the strands as you work your way down.

1. Once you reach the end, securely tie off the paracord. You can either knot it and tuck the loose ends into the sling or cut and burn the end for a clean finish.
2. Remove the screws from the 2x4 to release the swivels, then reattach them to your rifle.
