Common Household Products for First-aid

by hbrowning 06 Jun 2020
Knowing what is in and where your first aid is can be helpful especially during and if an emergency were to happen. There are many items to include in your first-aid kit so here are some great tips and ideas of common household products that may be ideal to add in unforeseen situations. The most common one that comes to my head is using Aloe Plant for Sunburns.  An aloe plant is all you need to start feeling immediate relief. Aloe plants are great to keep in your home. They can treat sunburns, minor kitchen burns, mild rashes, and even minor cuts because aloe heals and soothes the skin, and has a cooling effect that feels great. For a sunburn, break off a little piece of the plant, rip it open, and rub it directly on the affected area. You don't want to miss out on this! Yeah, that's right, Homemade all natural hand sanitizer. Forget about going to the store only to realize that they are all all out! Check out these steps below; -2 parts isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (91–99 percent alcohol) -1 part aloe vera gel -a few drops of lavender, spearmint, peppermint, or other essential oil *mix all ingredients together until well blended and don’t touch mixture until it’s ready for use* Going along the topic of homemade hand sanitizer, here is a how to make your own homemade disinfectant first aid spray;  - start with a 2 oz glass bottle (easy to take with you if you're on the run). - add a teaspoon of salt (salt is an emulsifier and is also a natural disinfectant). - pour distilled water to about 3/4 of the bottle and about add 30 drops of essential oils. some good ones to add; lavender, peppermint, lemon. Here are some easy natural remedies that you may have not know about, check them out below! - peppermint tea can stop diarrhea and is so effective! Fennel tea can help with bloating.  lavender oil, mixed with any vegetable oil can soothe a burn. A mixture of equal parts tea tree, peppermint and lavender oils, diluted in a carrier oil (coconut oil, olive oils, or whatever oil you have on hand) cayenne pepper (powder) applied locally can reliever muscle, pain Gargling with warm salt water to help ease sore throat Unfortunately, there is not yet a cure to the common cold, but there are some home remedies to help reduce the symptoms. If you ever experience a sore throat or an itchy cough, instead of reaching for unpleasant-tasting cough syrups, try these! By gargling with warm salt water, you can moisturize your irritated throat and disinfect the area if you are suffering from an infection such as strep throat. *dissolve ½ teaspoon of salt into one cup of warm water, and gargle, spit, repeat.* If you are experiencing discomfort from coughing, add 1 tablespoon of honey to the mix and repeat the same steps. The honey will coat your throat and soothe the scratch. Lavender & Peppermint Oils for Headaches Headaches can be brought on by stress, dehydration, allergies, and lack of sleep. When times get tough, it’s easy to reach for common painkillers as a solution. However, most of these drugs are often overused and can bring along a ton of health complications. Next time you get a headache, reach for essential oils. Peppermint and lavender oil are two oils that are most commonly used to treat headaches. By rubbing peppermint oil on your temples, you will increase blood flow to your forehead and soothe muscle contractions. Make sure you use the peppermint oils in combination with a carrier oil and be careful not to touch your eyes. Lavender oil works best when rubbed on the temples to cure migraine headaches. Dilute the oils with coconut or olive oil and apply like normal. Lavender oil can also help when having troubles falling asleep. By putting some in an oil diffuser or by rubbing some one your temples, lavender can help sooth your mind and get you the rest you need for the night.
