DIY Scuba Tank

13 Jan, 2018 2

Scuba diving is more than just a fun activity. Exploring deep water could provide access to fish and other resources that may be short on land. Breathing underwater, even just for a few minutes, could allow you to rescue someone from an underwater vehicle or help you survive other flooding situations.

Materials Needed

  • Sprayer tank with a pump
  • Diving weights
  • Baggage straps
  • Duct Tape

Steps

  1. It is extremely important to start with a brand new sprayer that hasn't been used with can chemicals or pesticides before. Wash the sprayer with soap and water. This will hold the air you are breathing so make sure it is clean. Rinse with clean water to ensure all the soap is rinsed out.
  2. Remove the straps that come with the sprayer.
  3. Attach the baggage straps to the tank. These straps will hold the tank on your back. Loop the strap around the base of the tank two times. Adjust it snuggly to your body then tape it in place using the duct tape. Tape all the way around the strap and the tank.
  4. Take the second baggage strap and tie it around the neck of the tank. Tie and knot to hold the strap in place.
  5. Place the tank on your back with the bottom strap around your waist and the top strap over your shoulders. Loop one side of the shoulder strap over the waist strap and the other under then buckle. The buckle should be nearly on top of each other.
  6. When filled with air the tank will act as a flotation device. Use the strap that came with the tank to attach diving weights to the tank. This will offset the tank's buoyancy. Or you can wear a weight belt.

Pump air into the tank using the pump handle. This tank set up will hold about 3 bars of air which will allow you to breathe underwater for 2-3 minutes. Remember to breathe slowly and calmly.
