Paracord keychains are functional and stylish.

Paracord, also known as parachute cord, is a lightweight nylon rope originally designed for parachuting. The popular 550 paracord, used for crafting, has a minimum breaking strength of 550 lbs. It’s rot-resistant, quick-drying, and incredibly versatile, making it a favorite for both military and civilian use. From fishing line to tent supports, paracord is a must-have for survival and crafting.

Paracord Keychain Tutorial

Follow this guide to create your own durable and decorative paracord keychain.

Materials Needed

  • 3 strands of paracord, each 40 inches long
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Masking tape

Steps to Create Your Paracord Keychain

    1. Prepare the Strands

Gather the three strands and measure 17 3/4 inches from one end. Use masking tape to secure the strands together at this point.

Step 1: Prepare the strands
    1. Braid the Strands

Braid the three strands by alternating the right and left outermost strands over their neighbors. Continue braiding until you reach a length of 3 1/2 inches. Secure the braid with tape.

Step 2: Braid the strands
    1. Form the Loop

Bring both taped ends together to form a loop. Secure them with tape and measure 2 1/4 inches down from the loop. Tape the strands at this point.

Step 3: Form the loop
    1. Tying the Crown Sinnet Knot

To tie the Crown Sinnet knot:

      • Make a backward "C" with each strand, laying each over its neighbor to the left.
      • Pull the strands tight and repeat until the tape point is reached.

Complete the Crown Sinnet, then tuck each strand under its neighbor to secure the ends. Trim excess cord and use a lighter to seal the edges, preventing fraying.
