What is Paracord?
Paracord, short for parachute cord, is a lightweight nylon rope initially used for parachuting. The most common type, 550 paracord, features a nylon sheath with 32 strands and seven 2-ply yarns inside, providing a minimum breaking strength of 550 lbs. Its quick-drying and rot-resistant properties make it ideal for a variety of tasks. The military uses paracord for securing gear, setting up shelters, and even fishing using the inner strands.

How to Make a Paracord Watch
Materials you’ll need:
- 10 feet of paracord
- Watch face (no band)
- Hemostats
- Lighter
- Measuring tape
- Side release buckle
- Scissors
- Measure 20 inches from one end of the paracord and loop it onto the buckle.
- Attach the shorter end to the buckle and use the longer end for weaving.
- Thread the paracord over the watch pins, under the watch, and back through the pins on the opposite side.
- Adjust the buckle distance to match your wrist size, accounting for an additional inch for weaving tightness.
- Begin weaving the longer working end around the cords and under the watch.
- Continue weaving, tightening the paracord to keep the weave uniform.
- Push the watch tight against the cord and thread the working strand under and back through the pins.
- Weave until you reach the desired length and secure the working strand using hemostats.
- Trim and melt the ends to prevent fraying, then tuck them under the weave.
